Shane Chisholm from Claresholm Alberta, has until now
been best recognized for his flamboyant performance
on stage with his stand-up bass...all of that is about to
change, or at least he balanced with the fact that Shane
Chisholm is a pretty neat songwriter and can deliver his
unique songs with an equally unique vocal treatment.
Hitchhiking Buddha marks Shane Chisholm’s debut
as a recording artist and it is filled with some
really different material.
Chisholm capably injects
humour and pathos in his songs,
many of which
carry neat stories and make social statements.
Two songs have already been released as singles
including the title track Hitchhiking Buddha,
which is filled with names of Canadian towns and
cities, giving it a touch that even Hank Snow and
Stompin’ Tom would be proud of.
Perhaps the most hard-hitting song on the album
comes in Taking out the Trash. The story line
would make a great CSI episode...it’s a dark and
murderous trailer trash tragedy story, with the bad
guy getting swept off by a tornado no less....told
you he was ‘different’.
Listen also for some neat efforts in Songs about
Love, a family singalong song, not unlike what
Tom.T.Hall use to serve up...What’s love? a
co-write by Chisholm with Willie Mack; and a
country/rocker in Kickin’ up Dust.
Cover tunes include a rollickin’ rockabilly version
of the Hank Williams classic Kawliga and the
Poison pop/rock classic Every Rose has it’s thorn
Shane Chisholm wrote most of the songs featured
on Hitchhiking Buddha and produced the album
which was recorded at a myriad of studios during
his travels, featuring a who’s who of Canadian
Musicians and also has neat comic book art |
